Prof. Dr. Rok Vengust, born 5.7.1967, graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ljubljana in 1993. In 2000 he completed his specialisation in Orthopaedics. From 2006 to 2021 he was the Head of the Department of Spine Surgery at the Orthopaedic Clinic of the University Hospital in Ljubljana. He is a full professor of Orthopaedics at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Ljubljana, and for two terms he was the head of the Extended Expert College for Orthopaedics at the Ministry of Health. He is a member of the international professional associations Eurospine, AO Spine and SEG (Spine Experts Group).
He specialises in spine surgery and has a deep expertise in degenerative spine diseases, especially in the elderly, as well as in spinal inflammation and tumours. He was the first in the country to introduce several surgical methods into clinical practice.
These include vertebroplasty, different approaches (TLIF, ALIF, and AxialLIF) for spinal fusions, osteotomies of the spine, and a stand-alone posterior approach for the surgery of extradural tumours and inflammations of the spine.
He has published 32 original papers in the field of Orthopaedics and Spine Surgery in international journals, including a university textbook.
He has organised several international symposia in the field of spinal surgery and has been invited as a speaker at numerous national and international meetings.
At home, he is a devoted father to Luka and Maja, a recreational sportsman, sports fan and lover of good films.
